Cordiners Sponsor Heraldry Reception

As we all know, the Trades Hall contains one of the finest, and certainly most concentrated collections of heraldry in the country. The House itself, the fourteen Incorporations, the Association of Deacons and many other related organizations have splendid arms recorded in the Lyon Register, celebrating its 350th Anniversary this year, having been set up in the reign of Charles II to regulate heraldry in Scotland.

On the 31st August the Incorporation of Cordiners is hosting a special event in celebration of the Anniversary. At 6 p.m. in the Adam Room, the distinguished armorist, Professor Beverly Bergman OBE, will give talk on Heraldry and Healing - a fascinating account of the way in which one lady used heraldic painting as a kind of therapy for soldiers suffering from shell-shock during the First World War in her home at Coldstream in the Borders.

Beverly's talk will be followed by a drinks reception sponsored by the Craft. If you would like to come to these free events, do sign up here.

The Reception will finish at 8p.m. after which there will be a Dinner with the Lord  Lyon chaired by Deacon Brian McAlinden CBE in the Grand Hall  for which tickets can be obtained at £70 including wine, from the Clerk.
